Small-Business Website Redesign Checklist
Use this practical checklist to review mobile usability, messaging, calls to action, lead capture, trust, SEO basics and ownership before redesigning a website.
Start with what is already working
A redesign should not automatically discard everything on the current site. Before rebuilding, identify useful content, working forms, pages that already receive traffic, existing domain settings and any integrations the business depends on.
Redesign checklist
- Mobile experience: Can visitors read, navigate, call and submit forms comfortably on a phone?
- Headline: Does the first screen quickly explain what the business does and who it helps?
- Calls to action: Is it obvious how to call, request a quote, book or buy?
- Lead forms: Are forms short enough to complete but detailed enough to qualify a lead?
- Navigation: Can a first-time visitor find services, contact information and key policies quickly?
- Trust: Are real business details, examples of work, policies and clear contact methods present?
- SEO basics: Are page titles, descriptions, headings, internal links and crawlable pages set up sensibly?
- Speed and clutter: Are large files, unnecessary scripts or confusing sections slowing the experience?
- Ownership: Does the business control the domain, hosting, analytics and other important accounts?
- Legal and privacy basics: Are privacy, terms and applicable disclosures available and accurate for the business?
Do not redesign only for appearance
A modern look matters, but the more important question is whether the new site makes it easier for visitors to understand the offer and take the desired action. A useful redesign improves clarity, usability and conversion paths—not just colors and fonts.
